Most of us forget the basics and wonder why the specifics don’t work. It took me awhile to realize that simply buying “on going trends” will never make me feel my wardrobe is complete and updated. The basics not only help me in creating an ideal outfit by layering and mix-n-matching, they are also saviours on days when I’m late or procrastinating.
So today I’ll listing out 11 wardrobe essentials that can help you create your capsule closet without shelling too much from your pocket.
1. Basic Neutral shade t-shirts:
Trust me when I say, you need them the most! All you need are three decent quality t shirts in the shade black, white and grey and you are always ready for some layering. You can choose other shades based on your preferences, but for me, these three work the best.
2. Denims:
We already own many pairs of them, don’t we ? then why am I mentioning denims in the list? That’s because I need you to invest in a good pair that fits your perfectly and can has 2% lycra or spandex. When you invest in a really good quality pair of jeans, you’ll want to learn to care for them properly to help them stay looking good for longer.
Of course, you can choose whether you prefer skinny fit or boyfriend fit, low rise or high waist rise, distressed or knee slashed. I suggest you have at least one pair of skinny fit non-ripped denim that can be worn on various occasions.
3. Solid Kurtis:
You definitely need them! Kurtis in India can be worn as casuals, traditionals as well as for work wear and college presentations. I prefer plain solid colour kurtis can be be paired up with black jeggings (as I am not so fond of leggings).
4. Black jeans or jeggings:
Black makes everything look elegant and classy. A black jeggings not only makes any outfit look classy, It also makes your legs look slimmer. A good pair of black jegging or jeans can be paired up with almost anything including your boyfriend’s loose shirt (which obviously looks much much better on you than how it looks on him!).
5. Denim shirt or jacket:
If you’re a Mumbaikar. you definitely don’t need a jacket as it’s literally never cold in Mumbai! So for people like us, a denim shirt is better than a denim jacket. But finding a good denim shirt isn’t that easy, especially when you’re pear or apple shaped. So whenever you find one that fit you well or looks good on you, JUST BUY IT!!!!!
P.S. : I found mine in kids section! It is originally a denim tunic for kids aged 11-12 but fits me perfectly as a shirt 😉
6. A versatile dress:
Although black is my favourite colour, here I’ll suggest you to go with ANY colour as long as the dress can be worn for day as well as night events. Or look for pieces that you can wear for work as well as after work meetups. These pieces will save your money as well as time.
7. Perfect formal outfit:
Yes, this one is not a single item but an entire outfit! You can choose whether you prefer a tailored blazer and trouser or a crisp white shirt with a black pencil skirt. Whatever you choose needs to be classic and please don’t even think of compromising with quality here. If you need a budget friendly closet ption. do mention in the comments :).
8. From Office to party handbag:
Your handbag should be capable of carrying everything you’ll need if the world comes to an end (just like hermione’s bag!) without being too large or heavy for your delicate shoulders. I prefer totes or handbags from Lino Perros as they are stylish and have enough space to fit everything I need for college.
9. White shoes:
It can be a converse, sneakers or even loafers, a pair of white shoes is the best investment you can make for your wardrobe. You can style them with your casuals, denim shirts, camouflage prints, dresses, etc. You’ll never have to think twice before styling them. Go for the ones with good souls so you don’t have to compromise on your style or comfort.
10. A statement watch:
On most days, we don’t have time to accessorize our outfit and that’s when a stylish watch comes to the rescue. It can be studded rose gold or oversized men watch, choose the one that matches your sense of fashion so it goes along with almost all your outfits. I prefer men style watches as they look sexy and work as a great accessory for most of my outfits.
11. RED LIPSTICK:
The last item is my favourite in this list, a red lipstick! A perfect red lipstick is all you need to glam up any look. while MAC’s RubyWoo is everyone’s favourite, You can go for options that are cheaper. To know about my favourite lipsticks, click here.
